Uzbekistan Customs Regulations for Traveler
Updated:
Practical Uzbekistan customs guide · declarations, cash, goods, phones, medicines and baggage
Checked against the official Customs.uz guide pages and the current Lex.uz legal acts on entry and exit rules for individuals, medicines, passenger declaration, customs liability, cash, goods and restricted categories.
This is a practical guide for travelers, not legal advice and not a live customs-status board.
Customs thresholds, permit lists and declaration procedures can change. If you carry a large amount of cash, a new or additional mobile phone, another mobile device, controlled medicines, a drone, professional equipment, cultural valuables or goods beyond ordinary tourist baggage, check current official sources before travel.
CAJ.UZ can help with general coordination, route planning, transfers, plain-language explanation and links to official sources. CAJ.UZ does not replace customs authorities, does not issue permits and cannot guarantee customs clearance, no inspection or a specific decision about your item.

Uzbekistan Customs Regulations for Travelers
This page helps travelers understand when a passenger customs declaration may be required, what to do with cash, mobile phones, medicines, drones, cultural valuables and baggage when entering or leaving Uzbekistan.
It is written for travelers from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, India, the UAE and other English-speaking or English-reading visitors.
Main rule: if you are unsure, use the red corridor or ask a customs officer before passing control. Using the green corridor means you state by action that you have nothing requiring written declaration.
Use this guide together with Uzbekistan border crossings, visa rules, transfers, distances and emergency contacts.
Do not mix two different topics: cash and goods in baggage. For cash, the key official threshold is the equivalent of 100,000,000 UZS; for goods, separate duty-free and quantity limits apply. If another page shows older figures, check the current Customs.uz pages and Lex.uz legal acts.
15-second answer: cash above the equivalent of 100,000,000 UZS must be declared. If you carry goods over the limits, controlled medicines, a drone, cultural valuables, professional equipment, a new / additional mobile device or any item you are unsure about, use the red corridor or ask a customs officer. Do not bring drones / UAVs without official permission. Keep medicines in original manufacturer packaging; carry prescriptions or certificates for prescription, narcotic, psychotropic or other controlled medicines.
Important: customs authorities may request documents, inspect goods, baggage and vehicles, check currency and apply customs control measures within the law.
This page helps you prepare, but the final decision is made by customs authorities and other competent state bodies.

Quick facts: what to know before Uzbekistan customs
| Topic | Official logic | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Green / red corridor | Green corridor is for travelers with no goods or cash requiring written declaration; red corridor is for declaration or voluntary declaration. | If unsure, use the red corridor or ask a customs officer before passing control. |
| Passenger declaration | Used for cash, valuable items, goods, transport, prohibited / restricted categories and goods over the limits. | Declare when you carry cash above the threshold, goods over limits, controlled medicines, drones, cultural valuables or permit categories. |
| Cash | Cash import is not limited if customs control rules are followed. Mandatory written declaration applies above the equivalent of 100,000,000 UZS. | Keep declarations and bank documents, especially if you plan to take a large amount out again. |
| Goods | Personal-use duty-free goods limits: international airports — USD 1,000; railway / river — USD 500; road / pedestrian checkpoint — USD 300. | If above limits, homogeneous, expensive or similar to commercial quantity, use the red corridor and check clearance. |
| Mobile devices | Mobile devices brought into Uzbekistan are listed separately in the passenger declaration procedure; the exception is for devices bought in Uzbekistan and already registered in the system-operator database. | If you carry a new, expensive or additional phone, several devices or a device for another person, check the procedure before using the green corridor. |
| Medicines | Without a medical document: up to 10 medicine names, no more than 5 packages of each; medical devices — up to 5 units. Package-size limits also apply. | Keep original packaging, prescription / certificate for prescription, narcotic, psychotropic or other controlled medicines. |
| Drones / UAVs | Drones and their components are listed among restricted categories in the declaration form. | Do not bring a drone without prior official permission and current-rule verification. |
| Cultural valuables | Historical and cultural valuables are restricted categories. | For old carpets, suzani, paintings, antiques and expensive items, keep documents and check permit rules before departure. |
| Liability | The passenger is responsible for accurate declaration and compliance with customs rules. | Do not hide items, do not understate information and do not rely on old forum advice. |
This page does not replace customs authorities. For unclear cases, use Customs.uz, current Lex.uz legal acts and customs officers’ instructions.
Green corridor and red corridor
The dual-corridor system applies to goods moved by individuals for non-commercial purposes. Choosing a corridor is not just a queue choice: using the green corridor means you state that you have no goods, cash or items requiring written declaration.
| Situation | Corridor | Meaning | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| No goods / cash requiring written declaration | Green corridor | You declare by action that you have no items requiring written declaration. | If restricted, prohibited or over-limit items are found, inspection, detention of goods and liability may follow. |
| Cash above the threshold, goods over limits, controlled medicines, drone, cultural valuables or permit category | Red corridor | Fill out a passenger customs declaration and present goods / documents to a customs officer. | Incorrect or incomplete declaration may lead to liability. |
| You are not sure whether declaration is needed | Red corridor or ask customs | Safer than passing the green corridor with an item that may require declaration. | Old blogs, forums and “friend experience” can be outdated. |
Using the green corridor does not remove the obligation to comply with customs law.
Passenger customs declaration
The passenger customs declaration is the main document for written declaration of goods, cash, currency valuables, mobile devices, vehicles and controlled items. The form can be printed through the official Customs Committee site or completed electronically through the customs information system.
| Declaration part | What is stated | When it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Page “A” | Travel details, passenger details, accompanying persons under 16, types of goods and cash above the equivalent of 100,000,000 UZS. | The main part of the declaration. |
| Page “B” | Cash, precious metals / stones and articles made of them, goods with identifying features / permit documents / quantity / value, and transport vehicle. | Completed when Page “A” includes goods or cash information. |
| Mobile devices | When brought into Uzbekistan, mobile devices are listed separately in the declaration procedure, apart from the general duty-free goods limits; the exception relates to devices bought in Uzbekistan and already registered in the system-operator database. | For a new, additional, expensive or multiple mobile device, check before the green corridor. |
| Additional page | Extra details if information does not fit into Page “B”. | For a long list of goods, valuables or other information. |
| Responsibility | The declaration is signed by the passenger; the passenger is responsible for accuracy and completeness. | You cannot transfer responsibility to a driver, agent or friend. |
Cash and currency funds
Cash has its own rules. Do not mix it with the goods limits. Cash import by individuals is not limited by amount if customs control rules are followed. The key declaration threshold is the equivalent of 100,000,000 UZS.
| Situation | Rule | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Cash import | Import is not limited if customs control rules are followed. | If the amount exceeds the equivalent of 100,000,000 UZS, complete the passenger declaration and present the funds. |
| Amount at or below the threshold | Such cash may be declared voluntarily. | Voluntary declaration can be useful if you plan to take the money out again or want to record the amount on entry. |
| Cash export | Amounts up to the equivalent of 100,000,000 UZS may be exported without restriction if customs control rules are followed; above the threshold only in established cases. | Keep entry declaration, bank documents and proof of origin. Non-residents should keep the declaration for the amount declared on entry. |
| Unclear amount, exchange rate or document | The threshold is an equivalent in UZS, not a fixed amount in USD. | Check current rate and procedure with customs; if unsure, declare. |
Do not use old fixed USD cash thresholds as current rules. For cash, the official UZS-equivalent threshold and current import / export procedure matter.
Personal-use goods and duty-free limits
Goods and cash are separate topics. The goods limits apply to personal-use goods moved by individuals for non-commercial purposes. The customs officer may look at quantity, repeat crossing, trip purpose and whether the goods look commercial.
| Route | Duty-free value for personal-use goods | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| International airport | USD 1,000 | The air-travel limit. It may not apply after a very short stay abroad or repeated trips in the same month. |
| Railway / river crossing | USD 500 | For non-commercial personal-use goods. |
| Road / pedestrian checkpoint | USD 300 | Relevant for land-border travelers. |
| Export of goods without declaration | USD 5,000 | Limited norm for taking goods out without submitting a declaration. |
| Separate quantity norms | Limit | Traveler note |
|---|---|---|
| Alcohol | 2 liters | For personal use; do not treat as commercial goods. |
| Cigarettes / cigars / tobacco | 200 cigarettes, 5 cigars, 100 g tobacco | Age and customs control still apply. |
| Perfume and eau de parfum | 3 units, total not more than 300 ml | Keep packaging / receipts if expensive. |
| Certain exported foods | Rice 3 kg; bread/bakery 5 kg; meat products 2 kg; sugar 2 kg; vegetable oil 2 kg; fresh and dried produce up to 40 kg | Check current phytosanitary / food restrictions if crossing borders. |
| Finished jewelry export | 65 g gold and 200 g silver | For valuable jewelry, keep purchase documents. |
Mobile devices, phones and electronics
Mobile phones and other mobile devices are not just “ordinary electronics” for customs preparation. In the current passenger customs declaration procedure, mobile devices brought into Uzbekistan are listed separately, apart from the general duty-free goods limits. The exception refers to devices bought in Uzbekistan and already registered in the system-operator database by international identification codes.
| Situation | Why it matters | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| One ordinary personal phone already used by the traveler | Usually a lower-risk case, but mobile-device rules and registration procedures can still matter. | If unsure, ask customs before the green corridor; keep purchase / use documents if available. |
| New, expensive or additional phone | May require declaration / registration checks and may not be treated as ordinary baggage. | Check before the green corridor and declare when required. |
| Several mobile devices or devices for another person | Can look commercial or outside ordinary tourist use. | Use the red corridor or ask customs; do not assume general goods limits solve this question. |
| Professional electronics, cameras, equipment | High value, repeat import or commercial-looking equipment can raise questions. | Carry invoices, route documents and proof of personal / professional use; declare when required. |
CAJ.UZ does not register phones / IMEI and does not make customs or system-operator decisions. We can only help you find official sources and coordinate your trip.
Medicines and medical devices
Medicines should be carried for personal use only, preferably in original manufacturer packaging. Prescription, narcotic, psychotropic or other controlled medicines should be carried with medical documents and declared when required.
| Medicine / item | General rule | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary medicines without medical document | Up to 10 names, no more than 5 packages of each. | Keep original manufacturer packaging. |
| Medical devices | No more than 5 units. | If expensive or unusual, keep medical explanation / documents. |
| Controlled medicines | Narcotic, psychotropic and potent medicines have separate requirements and should be declared with documents. | Carry prescription / medical certificate with name, dosage form and treatment quantity. |
| Excess quantity | Requires declaration and a medical institution document with medicine name, dosage form and quantity for treatment course. | Do not split controlled medicines into unlabelled bags. |
| Package form | Limit per package |
|---|---|
| Solid forms: tablets, dragees, granules, powders, capsules | Up to 100 units |
| Powders for solution | Up to 500 g |
| Homeopathic granules | Up to 50 g |
| Infusion and oral solutions | Up to 500 ml |
| Injectable solutions | Up to 10 ampoules or 10 vials |
| External-use medicines | Up to 200 ml or 200 g |
Drones, UAVs and restricted equipment
Drones / unmanned aerial vehicles and their components are listed among restricted goods in the passenger declaration form. Do not bring a drone to Uzbekistan unless you have verified the current official permit procedure and obtained the required permission in advance.
Cultural valuables, carpets, suzani, paintings and antiques
Historical and cultural valuables are restricted categories. This can matter for old carpets, suzani, artworks, antiques, manuscripts, museum-type items or expensive objects that may look culturally significant.
| Item | Risk | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| New ordinary souvenir | Usually lower risk, but keep receipts. | Keep purchase documents, especially for expensive items. |
| Old carpet, suzani, painting, antique or collectible | May require certificate / permit or inspection. | Check export rules before buying or before departure. |
| Unclear age or origin | Customs may require clarification. | Use the red corridor or ask customs before departure. |
Prohibited and restricted categories
The passenger declaration form lists prohibited and restricted categories. Travelers should not rely on informal advice when carrying anything unusual, expensive, regulated or potentially sensitive.
| Category | Examples | Traveler advice |
|---|---|---|
| Prohibited examples | Narcotic substances and analogues; explosives and chemical-weapons-related materials; prohibited extremist, terrorist, violent, pornographic or similar materials. | Do not carry such items. |
| Restricted examples | Firearms and ammunition; controlled medicines; protected animals / plants; live animals, meat products and quarantine goods; drones; radio-electronic / high-frequency devices; historical and cultural valuables. | Check permit requirements and declare when required. |
| Unclear item | Professional equipment, samples, repeated identical items, expensive electronics, specialist tools. | Use red corridor or ask customs before control. |
Liability for incorrect declaration or customs violations
The traveler is responsible for accurate and complete declaration. Incorrect information, hiding items, unlawful movement of cash or restricted goods, or using the green corridor when written declaration is required may lead to inspection, detention of goods and liability.
Airport customs vs land-border customs
The same general customs logic applies at airports and land borders, but the duty-free value limits differ. Land-border travelers should pay special attention to the USD 300 goods limit, repeat crossings and short stays abroad. Airport travelers should not assume that air travel removes declaration duties for cash, mobile devices, drones, medicines or restricted goods.
Airport travelers
Check the USD 1,000 goods limit, cash threshold, mobile devices, medicines, drones and cultural valuables before choosing the corridor.
Land-border travelers
Check the USD 300 goods limit, short-stay / repeated-trip exceptions, vehicle-related procedures and border-crossing timing.
What to do if you are not sure
- Do not use the green corridor automatically.
- Prepare receipts, prescriptions, certificates, permits and route documents.
- Ask a customs officer before passing control.
- Use the red corridor if declaration may be required.
- Keep copies of completed declarations and supporting documents.
For large cash amounts, mobile devices, medicines, drones, cultural valuables or commercial-looking goods, the safest practical step is to check before crossing.

FAQ — Uzbekistan customs rules for travelers
What are the duty-free limits for personal goods when entering Uzbekistan?
For personal-use goods, the listed limits are USD 1,000 through international airports, USD 500 through railway or river crossing, and USD 300 through road or pedestrian checkpoints. These are personal-use limits, not commercial import rules.
Do these duty-free limits always apply?
No. The limits may not apply if the person stayed abroad for a short period, or if the person travelled abroad three or more times during one calendar month.
Do I need to declare cash when entering Uzbekistan?
Cash import is not limited by amount if customs control rules are followed. Cash above the equivalent of 100,000,000 UZS must be declared and shown to a customs officer. Amounts at or below the threshold may be declared voluntarily.
How much cash can I take out of Uzbekistan?
Cash within the equivalent of 100,000,000 UZS may be taken out without restriction if customs control rules are followed. Export above that threshold is allowed only in the established cases.
Should I use the green corridor or the red corridor?
Use the green corridor only when you have no goods, cash or restricted items that require written declaration. If you are unsure, use the red corridor or ask a customs officer before crossing control.
Can I bring medicines into Uzbekistan?
Yes, for personal use. Without a medical document, the general allowance is up to 10 medicine names and no more than 5 packages of each; medical devices are limited to 5 units. Prescription, narcotic, psychotropic and other controlled medicines require documents and declaration.
What package limits apply to medicines?
Per package limits include up to 100 units for solid forms, up to 500 g for powders for solution, up to 50 g for homeopathic granules, up to 500 ml for infusion or oral solutions, up to 10 ampoules or 10 vials for injectable solutions, and up to 200 ml or 200 g for external-use medicines.
Do I need to declare a mobile phone or another mobile device?
Mobile devices brought into Uzbekistan are listed separately in the passenger declaration procedure, apart from the general duty-free goods limits. The exception refers to devices bought in Uzbekistan and already registered in the system-operator database. New, additional or expensive phones should be checked before using the green corridor.
Can I bring a drone into Uzbekistan?
Drones, unmanned aerial vehicles and their components are listed among restricted goods. Do not bring a drone without prior official permission and current-rule verification.
Can I take out old carpets, suzani, paintings or antiques?
Historical and cultural valuables are restricted categories. For old carpets, suzani, artworks, antiques or expensive souvenirs, keep documents and check the permit procedure before departure.
Do I need to declare expensive electronics or professional equipment?
Declare equipment or other goods when they exceed limits, look like a commercial quantity, require permits, or may need proof of personal use. Mobile devices have a separate declaration logic.
Can CAJ.UZ guarantee customs clearance?
No. CAJ.UZ can help with trip coordination, transfers, route planning, general explanations and links to official sources, but cannot guarantee customs clearance, no inspection, permits or customs decisions.
Why do different websites show different limits?
Customs rules changed over time, and another page may still show older figures. Cash and goods are different topics: cash uses the 100,000,000 UZS equivalent threshold, while goods use separate duty-free and quantity limits.
What should I do if I am not sure whether to declare something?
Use the red corridor or speak to a customs officer before passing control. This is safer than using the green corridor with items that may require declaration, a permit or inspection.
