Uzbekistan is located in Central Asia, bordered in the north with Kazakhstan, in the south-west with Turkmenistan, in the east with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, in the south with Afghanistan.

Tashkent became the capital of the Turkestan General Government in 1867.
Tashkent was transitive from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan in 1984.
The capital of the Uzbek SSR was moved to Tashkent from Samarkand in 1930.
