Uzbekistan Transit Visa and Airport Connections

Updated 19 October 2026

When you can remain airside, enter the city or need a visa

International transfers without leaving the designated airport area are covered by a rule of up to 24 hours. Five-day transit entry has specific conditions, while a TRAN visa is issued for up to three days.

First check whether your passport qualifies for ordinary visa-free entry. Then confirm the transfer route, baggage arrangements and documents for your next country with the carrier.

Which option fits your connection?

Updated 19 October 2026. Start with your citizenship and passport. If you qualify for ordinary visa-free entry, you can plan a short stop within that regime; a separate transit visa is usually unnecessary.

Otherwise, the length of your connection and whether you must pass immigration matter. Remaining in the designated airport area, five-day transit entry and a TRAN visa are different arrangements.

Four transit options

Choose the option that matches your documents and tickets. A journey described as “transit” does not by itself give you permission to enter the country.

Airport transfer of up to 24 hours

No entry into the city Designated transit area

You need documents authorising entry to your destination and an air ticket with a confirmed departure date from the transfer airport. You may not leave the specially designated airport area.

Visa-free transit entry for up to five days

All conditions must be met International airports

This arrangement applies to nationalities in Annex 2 to Resolution PP-3836. You need an air ticket to a third country with a carrier that provides passenger information to the border authorities in advance.

TRAN transit visa for up to three days

Consular application Route and stops specified by the visa

For short transit entry where no visa exemption applies. Observe the dates, permitted route and stopping points in your issued visa.

Ordinary visa-free entry or an entry visa

Based on your passport For a journey with a stop

You can visit the city when you have an appropriate basis for entry. Check your trip length, purpose, registration and the next country’s requirements separately.

Connecting without leaving the transit area

Confirm your onward departure

The rule of up to 24 hours covers an international airline connection with confirmed onward departure and documents for entry to the destination. Do not rely on this arrangement if the wait exceeds 24 hours.

Check where your baggage goes

Ask the carrier whether your baggage is checked through and whether you can reach the next flight without entering Uzbekistan. Collecting baggage or checking in again may require immigration clearance.

Check terminals and separate tickets

A through booking and separate tickets can involve different transfer procedures. Before flying, ask where to obtain your next boarding pass and whether you can move between the necessary airport areas without border control.

Allow for schedule changes

If a flight is cancelled or you miss a connection, contact the airline promptly. An overnight stay outside the transit area requires a suitable basis for entry; a delay does not create one.

Five-day visa-free transit: what to confirm

All the conditions below must be met together. This is conditional short entry to Uzbekistan, distinct from waiting in a closed transit area.

Citizenship and the current entry regime

Annex 2 to PP-3836 Check before buying tickets

Compare your passport with the current annex. Some nationalities now qualify for ordinary visa-free entry: US citizens, for example, have up to 30 days from entry since 2026. Use the ordinary regime where applicable.

An air ticket to a third country

Entry through an international airport No more than five days

Have a confirmed onward air ticket to a third country and the documents needed to enter it. Do not apply this airport arrangement to a plan that involves leaving Uzbekistan by train or car.

Advance passenger information

Confirmation for your particular flight Before departure

The current rule requires the carrier to provide passenger information in advance. Ask whether this condition is met for your flight and passport. Do not assume any ticket is sufficient or use an airline name as a substitute for checking.

TRAN visas: documents, fees and stops

Where to apply

Check the procedure with the competent Uzbek consulate. The legal text gives a period of three days for consular processing of a transit visa abroad. Apply early and agree the documents rather than relying on last-minute issuance.

What to prepare

For consular applications, the MFA lists a passport valid for at least three months beyond the visa, two completed forms and two colour photographs. Transit also requires documents for entry to the next country and tickets confirming departure from Uzbekistan. If that country is visa-free for you, ask how to demonstrate your right to enter. Road transit needs driver and vehicle documents; confirm the exact list with the consulate.

The published fee

The MFA’s general tariff lists a transit visa for up to 72 hours at USD 40 and a double transit visa at USD 50. Additional processing costs and treaty exceptions depend on the place of application and applicable arrangements. The consulate confirms the final amount.

Where you may stop

A TRAN visa is issued for up to three days and does not replace a tourist visa for unrestricted travel around the country. Stops depend on the issued visa and route. For several days of sightseeing, first check ordinary visa-free entry or a suitable entry visa.

Registration during a stop in Uzbekistan

After entering the country

Foreign visitors permanently resident abroad generally must register their place of stay no later than three working days from entry, unless an exception applies. Five-day transit entry does not automatically exempt you for all five days.

Hotels and private accommodation

Accommodation providers register guests through E-mehmon. For private accommodation, agree registration with your host in advance and keep confirmation. For a short stop, check any applicable exemption instead of assuming all transit travellers are exempt.

Questions about connections and transit visas

Can I visit Tashkent during a connection of up to 24 hours?

The rule for transfers of up to 24 hours does not allow you to leave the specially designated airport area. A city visit requires a separate basis for entry, such as an applicable visa exemption or visa.

Must both flights be with Uzbekistan Airways for five-day transit?

The current legal text refers to a carrier providing passenger information in advance. Before flying, confirm that this condition is met for your particular flights. An airline name or an old information sheet alone is insufficient.

What if my connection lasts 26 hours?

The described arrangement without leaving the designated area is limited to 24 hours. For a longer wait, agree transfer procedures with the carrier in advance and check which basis for entry fits your circumstances.

Can I fly in for five days and leave by train?

Do not rely on the special five-day airport arrangement for this plan: it requires an air ticket to a third country. For a rail itinerary, check ordinary visa-free entry or an appropriate visa and the next country’s documents.

Can I visit different cities with a TRAN visa?

Only within the conditions of your issued transit visa: the route and permitted stops matter. For an independent tourist itinerary, first check visa-free entry or a tourist entry visa.

Does five-day transit exempt me from registration?

There is no automatic exemption covering all five days. After entry, consider the general deadline of three working days and specific short-stay exceptions. Your hotel or host can help arrange registration at your address.

A trip after lawful entry

Plan sightseeing only once your right to enter is confirmed and you have enough time outside the airport. The full-day Tashkent programme is not designed for waiting in a closed transit area. Agree flight times, transfers and guide language before booking.

Programme, price and booking

Tashkent in one day

A private full-day programme for 1–7 guests: Hazrati Imam, Chorsu and the city centre, using a car, the metro and short walks. Participation depends on your entry permission and available time.

A separate five-day trip

Tashkent — Bukhara — Samarkand — Tashkent, four nights, groups of 2–12 and local guides. Consider this as a separate journey with lawful entry, not a promise to fit a tour into a flight connection.
