This landslide-dammed lake lies at 2,195 metres. It covers about 3.4 km² and reaches a maximum depth of 72 metres.
The name
“Alexander’s Lake”
Iskander is the eastern form of Alexander, while kul means lake. The association with Alexander the Great belongs to local legend.
Iskanderdarya
A waterfall about 38–43 m high
The river flows out of Iskanderkul and plunges into a narrow gorge. Its powerful, noisy flow inspired the tourist nickname Fann Niagara.
