“Alexander’s Lake”

Iskander is the eastern form of Alexander, while kul means lake. The association with Alexander the Great belongs to local legend.

The river flows out of Iskanderkul and plunges into a narrow gorge. Its powerful, noisy flow inspired the tourist nickname Fann Niagara.
