Uzbekistan transit visa is not needed in every transit case. The correct answer depends on your passport, route, time in Uzbekistan, whether you pass passport control, whether you leave the transit zone, how you cross the border and whether you have confirmed onward travel to a third country.
This English page is written for travellers searching from English-language markets such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, South Africa and India. These country names are used as language / GEO context only. They are not a list of passports that need or do not need a transit visa. The rule is always checked by passport citizenship, route and official sources.
CAJ.UZ does not issue transit visas and does not make visa decisions. We can check your route, explain the correct visa scenario, separate transit visa from e-visa, visa-free entry and visa support, and help with a tour or accommodation if you plan to leave the airport and spend time in Uzbekistan.
For a route check, send citizenship, passport type, full route, airports / borders, time in Uzbekistan, tickets, next destination and whether you plan to leave the transit zone.
15-second answer: transit through Uzbekistan depends on your passport, route and whether you enter the country. The TRAN transit visa is issued for up to 3 days; the official fee is $40 up to 72 hours or $50 for a double transit visa. Visa-free airport transit for up to 5 days is possible only under official conditions: citizenship from Annex 2, transit through international airports of Uzbekistan and a flight ticket to a third country issued by Uzbekistan Airways JSC.

How to know whether you need a transit visa
For transit, the word “connection” is not enough. The decision depends on your passport, full route, time in Uzbekistan, whether you leave the transit zone, transport type and confirmed onward travel to a third country.
Practical route check
| Situation | What may apply | What to check | Where to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short airside connection without leaving the transit zone | A visa may not be needed, but this depends on the airport, airline and route | Single ticket, baggage, terminal change, passport control | Check route |
| 5-day visa-free airport transit | Only under official conditions: Annex 2 citizenship, international airport transit and a third-country ticket issued by Uzbekistan Airways JSC | Passport, citizenship, international airport of Uzbekistan, third-country ticket and Uzbekistan Airways JSC condition | gov.uz list |
| Transit up to 72 hours with entry into Uzbekistan | TRAN transit visa | Destination-country visa, confirmed exit from Uzbekistan, timing and fee | Fees |
| You want to leave the airport or stay longer than a transit window | E-visa, visa-free entry or regular visa — depending on passport | Citizenship, stay length, purpose of travel and itinerary | E-visa |
| Train, car, bus or land border | Regular entry / transit scenario; do not apply the 5-day airport rule automatically | All borders, neighbouring-country visas, dates, transport and registration | Visa guide |
| Passport with visa-free entry to Uzbekistan | Transit visa is usually not needed within the permitted visa-free stay | Citizenship, stay length, registration, route and neighbouring-country rules | Visa-free entry |
Note for English-language travellers: some passports from English-language markets may already allow visa-free entry, while others may require a transit visa, e-visa or consular visa. Do not buy non-refundable tickets before checking the full route, entry conditions, registration, onward visa and airline requirements.
Transit visa fees
The fees below are official consular fees for transit visas. They are not CAJ.UZ prices. CAJ.UZ does not collect the official consular fee and does not issue transit visas.
| Type | Official fee | When it fits | Important |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transit visa up to 72 hours | $40 | Short transit through the territory of Uzbekistan | Confirmed exit from Uzbekistan is required |
| Double transit visa | $50 | Route with two transit entries | Check both route segments and destination-country visas |
Important: additional actual costs may depend on the place of visa issuance. Final conditions should be checked with the consulate or official source before applying.
Documents for Uzbekistan transit visa
The exact document set should be checked with the Uzbekistan consulate where you apply. Below is the basic structure from official visa information.
Usually required:
- passport or stateless person document;
- for visa application, the passport should be valid at least 3 months longer than the visa;
- for practical entry, also check the 6+ months validity guidance from the date of entry;
- 2 completed visa application forms;
- 2 passport-size color photos;
- destination-country visa, if required;
- travel documents confirming departure date from Uzbekistan to the destination country;
- route and ticket confirmation.
For CAJ.UZ route check, send:
- citizenship and passport type;
- departure city / country;
- airport or border of entry into Uzbekistan;
- arrival and departure time;
- next country and final destination;
- whether you will pass passport control;
- whether you will leave the airport or transit zone;
- whether the destination-country visa is needed and available;
- for the 5-day airport regime — whether the third-country flight ticket is issued by Uzbekistan Airways JSC.
Transit through Tashkent airport and other international airports
Airport transit is not always the same. One case is a short airside connection without passport control. Another case is leaving the airport, staying overnight, changing terminal or checking in again for a new flight. In the second case, you may actually enter Uzbekistan, and your visa scenario must be checked before travel.
- No exit from transit zone: check with the airline, airport and ticket whether passport control is required.
- Leaving the airport: check visa-free entry, the 5-day transit regime, e-visa or transit visa.
- 5-day airport transit: not universal; it applies only for citizens of Annex 2 countries, through international airports of Uzbekistan and with a third-country flight ticket issued by Uzbekistan Airways JSC.
- Baggage and terminal: if you need to collect baggage or check in again, you may need to enter the country.
Land transit, train, car and bus routes
Do not apply the 5-day airport visa-free transit rule automatically to land routes. Train, car, bus and border crossings with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan or Turkmenistan require a separate check.
Check before travel:
- each entry and exit border;
- Uzbekistan visa or visa-free regime under your passport;
- neighbouring-country visa, if required;
- transport: train, car, bus, driver;
- length of stay in Uzbekistan;
- registration if the stay is longer than a short transit.
Common mistakes:
- assuming that “transit” is always visa-free;
- buying a ticket without checking the destination-country visa;
- forgetting an overnight stay in Uzbekistan;
- not checking registration;
- mixing e-visa and transit visa;
- applying an airport-only rule to a car, bus or train route.
Registration during transit
According to my.gov.uz, foreign nationals transiting through Uzbekistan or staying for a period not exceeding 3 working days are exempt from mandatory registration. If you stay at a hotel, the hotel usually handles registration automatically.
- Short transit: usually up to 3 working days without mandatory registration.
- Hotel stay: accommodation providers often handle registration.
- Longer than 3 working days: check registration in advance.
- Exit control: keep registration confirmations until departure.
Transit visa, e-visa or visa support?
These are different scenarios. The right one depends on passport, purpose, timing and route.
Transit visa
- category TRAN;
- up to 3 days;
- requires onward travel to a third country;
- requires tickets and destination-country visa if needed;
- is not an e-visa.
E-visa
- submitted through e-visa.gov.uz;
- does not fit every citizenship;
- usually allows up to 30 days of stay;
- may be more suitable if you leave the airport or stay longer;
- is not a TRAN transit visa.
Visa support / LOI
- is a separate scenario;
- is not needed for every transit passenger;
- is connected with invitation / receiving side;
- packages and conditions are on a separate CAJ.UZ page;
- should not be mixed with e-visa.

It depends on airport, airline, single ticket, baggage, terminal change and whether passport control is required. Check the route before buying tickets.

Do not apply this rule automatically. Land transit, train and car routes must be checked separately by passport, borders, neighbouring-country visas and stay length.
How is transit visa different from e-visa?
TRAN transit visa is for short transit through Uzbekistan. E-visa is an electronic entry visa through e-visa.gov.uz and does not fit every citizenship.
Is registration needed during transit?
Foreign nationals transiting through Uzbekistan or staying for a period not exceeding 3 working days are usually exempt from mandatory registration. Hotels often handle registration for guests.
